I'm James Appell. I live in London.

If you wanted to pigeon-hole me, you would call me a sports obsessive Russophile Northerner.

I like all kinds of sport. Though I'm slightly less keen on those such as horse-racing, running and motor-racing which are essentially glorified travelling.

I set up The Cynical Challenge in 2009 with the hope of writing about the world of sport in an informed, alternative way. The blog tries to cover subjects and issues that you might not find in the traditional media.

If you're visiting The Cynical Challenge for idle gossip, short sentences with few syllables, or pictures of attractive women wearing football shirts, you're likely to be disappointed. I apologise for that, but keep looking, I guarantee you'll find something of that sort very soon.
